Description: Dr. Amy Barnhorst will be presenting on Mental Health During COVID, covering the ways that the pandemic has impacted levels of stress, anxiety and depression. She will discuss the national impact, as well as ways to recognize and cope on an individual level. Date/Time: October 6, 2020, 1:00 – 2:30pm PT Speaker Bio: Dr. Amy Barnhorst, University of California, Davis (UC Davis), Department of Psychiatry. Dr. Barnhorst is an emergency and inpatient psychiatrist who sees patients in the county jail, crisis unit, and inpatient psychiatric hospital, and in the UC Davis Emergency Department. She is the Vice Chair of Hospital and Community Services at the UC Davis Department of Psychiatry and holds a joint appointment in the Department of Emergency Medicine. She’s a nationally recognized expert on firearms laws and mental illness, and her academic work focuses in on the interface between violence, suicide, firearms, and mental illness. She has presented nationally on these topics, and writes about them for Psychology Today and the New York Times. Currently, she is leading the BulletPoints Project, funded by the State of California to develop and disseminate a firearm injury prevention curriculum to healthcare providers.
