On March 22, 2021, Ten people, including a police officer, were killed when a gunman opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, about 25 miles northwest of Denver. Officials have confirmed the suspected lone shooter is in custody.

Summary Statement

Ten people, including a police officer, were killed Monday afternoon when a gunman opened fire at a King Soopers grocery store in Boulder, Colorado, about 25 miles northwest of Denver. Officials have confirmed the suspected lone shooter is in custody. Police have not confirmed a motive for the shooting at this time.

2:40 PM: Officers initially responded to a report of someone being shot in the parking lot of the King Soopers grocery store and, when they arrived at the scene, a suspect carrying a long gun opened fire on them. Officer Eric Talley was the first officer to arrive on scene, where he was fatally shot.

Additional officers arrived on scene and immediately entered the store and addressed the gunman, an exchange of gunfire resulted in the suspect being wounded.

3:28 PM: The lone shooter was taken into custody.

On March 23, 2021, Boulder Police Chief Maris Herold identified the suspect as 21-year-old Ahmad Alaliwi Alissa. The suspect has been charged with ten counts of first-degree murder. The Chief also reported the victims from yesterday’s shooting ranged in age from 20 to 65.

Officials are stressing that this is still a very active investigation and will release further details as soon as possible.
