General Indicators of Theft Activity Targeting Houses of Worship

General Advance Indicators:

Reports of stolen cash, checks, or other financial instruments;
Surge in distraction thefts, such as: pickpocketing, quick change scams, or organized shoplifting;
Reports or observation of small groups loitering on/near the premises of houses of worship;
Visits by small groups with no prior ties to the house of worship, seeking a private audience or accompaniment in prayers for a sick loved one.

Indicators of Stolen Contributions

Check found in a House of Worship’s donations box or mailbox written out to other houses of worship;
Surveillance, observation, or physical signs of tampering on house of worship’s donations box or mailbox.
