Effectively Responding To Active Shooters In Healthcare Facilities
Between 2000 and 2017, there were 250 active shooter incidents in the United States, four percent of which occurred in healthcare organizations. Healthcare facilities, by their very nature, need an alternative to the standard "Run, Hide, Fight" approach. Caregivers responsible for vulnerable patient populations (children, the elderly, or those on life support) require an alternative. This article presents "Secure, Preserve, Fight" as an alternative which will strives to protect staff and patients alike.
A ransomware attack conducted by Blackcat/ALPHV against Change Healthcare, a UnitedHealth healthcare technology company, has created a nationwide outage of a platform used by healthcare providers to communicate with insurance companies’ information systems.
