The Office of Drinking Water strongly encourages waterworks to assess their cybersecurity practices and implement cybersecurity controls appropriate to the technologies they utilize.  For a waterworks new to cybersecurity, simply implementing basic cybersecurity practices can greatly reduce their exposure to cyber-attacks that may threaten their water system, billing/financial software, or other critical systems.  

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency encourages organizations to establish procedures that help security personnel distinguish between routine and suspicious UAS activity. This will assist in preserving incident response resources while also helping to ensure an accessible airspace for compliant UAS operators.

To prepare critical infrastructure environments for potential attacks, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management has undertaken a major planning effort - the Blue Book Project, the goals of which are to develop a coordinated operational process to support local, state, federal, and private sector operational priorities; support Virginia residents; and ensure continuity of government while under a coordinated cyberattack on critical infrastructure systems resulting in a national emergency.
